The interior regions in Portugal are defined by Ordinance no. 208/2017, of July 13. The Ordinance delimits the territorial areas that benefit from measures of the National Territorial Cooperation Program (PNCT), which can constitute an incentive for the development of the interior regions.
The new golden visa law that came into action in 2022 limits residential real estate investments to Madeira, the Azores and the interior regions of continental Portugal.
Investments in real estate for tourism, commerce, and services purposes are excluded from the restrictions and may continue to be executed in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto, as well as in the inter-municipal communities of the Coast.
